• Perpetrators are sensitive to other perpetrators' reactions to collective apologies. • Perpetrators can meet their own moral needs in the absence of victim pardon. • Perpetrator, as well as victim acceptance can restore perpetrators' moral image. • Victim group members who reject substandard, qualified apologies are still disliked. • Any rejected apology reduces perpetrator group members' willingness to reconcile.
